Michael Lee is a digital photography teacher in Spokane, Washington. Throughout the 2017 school year, Michael spotted his students arriving to class earlier than normal and editing their photographs at a significantly quicker pace than usual.
Eventually, he understood why the children were working faster not because they were enjoying the class, but rather so they could return to using their cell phones and invest energy online.
The teacher was disappointed, which determined him to make an alteration for the better.
Micheal explains, “My overall goal was to give kids an opportunity to engage in what they’re doing, and that’s hard to do when every few seconds or a few minutes there’s a beep on your phone and you have to check what it is.”
Michael started looking into other approaches to store cellphones and wound up obtaining a substantially large phone cubby from Amazon. It was at that point he thought of a new system for his students.
Every student is given a cubby number. At the beginning of each class, the students are supposed to put their cellphones inside their assigned cubby, which also enables them to charge their phones for the whole class.
It wasn’t too long when Michael actually began to notice some really fantastic results — and now other teachers from his school are feeling motivated to follow the same pattern.
