When her daughter, Kailey, started feeling sick at school, Christie left work early to pick her up and take her home. Little did she know that just minutes later, Kailey would be the one saving HER! ??

Life comes at us a mile a minute. Life-changing things – both good and bad – can happen in an instant, and it’s only when we look back at them later that we can truly appreciate the whole picture.

That’s what happened when Christie Cunningham-George’s 8-year-old daughter, Kailey George, called her from school and told her she didn’t feel well.

Christie, a nurse, decided to leave work early so she could pick Kailey up and take her home. She thought she would be taking care of Kailey that afternoon. Little did she know her young daughter would actually be saving her…

When they got home, Christie’s back started to hurt, so she grabbed her foam roller to try to ease out whatever was causing the pain. But as she began to roll out her back, she fell to the ground.

Alarmed, Kailey ran over to her mother. She noticed her mom’s mouth was drooping and she was talking funny.

Christie thought she was just dehydrated and asked Kailey to bring her some water. Kailey brought the cup over but noticed her mom couldn’t use her own arm to drink the water.

“Are you playing tricks?” Kailey asked.

Christie wasn’t. In fact, the 35-year-old was having a stroke.

In the moment, Christie still didn’t realize the severity of her situation. She was healthy and didn’t have a history of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or smoking, so she didn’t think there was any chance something so serious could be going on.

While she told Kailey not to call 911, the young girl knew she had to call somebody, so she called her dad. When he heard Christie’s slurred speech, he immediately called 911. Thankfully, paramedics were able to make it in time to save Christie’s life.

Christie later discovered she had a hole in her heart and a blood clot had moved through the hole to her brain, causing the stroke. She knows that, had it not been for Kailey’s concern and quick thinking in the midst of the scary situation, she might not be here today.

Doctors were able to fix the hole in her heart during a surgery. Christie was put on blood thinners before the surgery and will have to take baby aspirin for the rest of her life, but thanks to her heroic daughter, she should be around for years to come.

Had Kailey not been feeling sick that day and asked to come home, who knows what might have happened. Thankfully, she was there to save her mother’s life.

The young girl was presented with a Life Saving award in front of police officers, paramedics, and classmates. She truly is her mom’s hero. What a brave and inspiring young lady!
