Winter can be a magical time of year. Everyone enjoys being indoors, sitting around a fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa. However, as wonderful as winter is, there are hazards to look out for as well. Roadblocks due to icy roads, the cold, slipping on the ice, etc. Because of this, it is important to be extra vigilant while taking precautions during winter. The same can be said for animals as well. This happens to be the case for a red deer that found itself in a life-threatening situation. It had fallen into a frozen river in Siberia – one of the coldest countries in the world. Thankfully, a group of hunters was able to save this freezing deer. And in a peculiar way as well.

We find it strange that hunters would help an animal, rehabilitate and release it back into the wild. Hunters don’t have to be cruel, and it is always nice to hear of them helping animals – not just hunting them. Thankfully, these four hunters had kind hearts to help this freezing deer out of the water.

Freezing deer stuck in an icy river

A red deer was found floating in the river Barguzin near Ulan-Ude in eastern Siberia, Russia. One of the men, Aleksej Baluev, can be heard saying ““We need to get it away from the cold.” It took them four hours to cut the freezing deer out of the water.

They cut a path in the frozen water to be able to get the deer out. Once on land, they began rubbing his legs and body to promote circulation. Knowing they needed to keep him warm, they lit a fire and started warming him up.

Giving the deer vodka – does this really work?
